Back to School Essentials

I had to go back to school a few weeks ago so I thought I'd share with you my essentials that I keep in my bag and blazer at all times. Most of these are aimed at girls but are easily interchangeable for other genders :)

  • Hair Brush, Bobbles, and Bobby Pins
I change my hair so much throughout the day either due to necessity e.g. I have p.e. so my hair has to be up or just due to boredom, my friends tell me I often change it 6 times in an hour long  lesson! I always carry more than one bobble/bobby pin around because people always come to me needing one.

  • Water
Hydration is important and drinking more water keep your skin clear and glowing. If possible I'd recommend freezing a bottle of water the night before and bringing it the next day, ice water is not only more refreshing but also supposedly good for your metabolism.

  • LipBalm
As I mentioned in this tweet I'm not a fan of chapped lips and they can easily get dry during the colder months which are approaching.

Some more essential include
  • Plasters
  • Tissues and Wet-wipes - for when theres no toilet paper or you have a cold.
  • Mirror
  • Body Spray

  • Hand Sanitizer and Hand Cream - for after touching icky banisters and door handles that are sticky for unknown reasons :S
  • Headphones
  • Gum or Mints (chewing some hubba bubba right now)

September Wishlist

Right so I've decided, because I completely failed last time I said I was going to do one of these once a month, that I'm now going to do either a favourites or a wishlist every second month and which will be included in my minimum of two posts a month. (fingers crossed I actually do it this time)

This months wishlist is all clothes from an app I discovered recently called Vinted which allows you to raid other people closets from around the world and buy clothes they don't want anymore for a lot cheaper than they would've been in store.
nov-look-1-top-left.jpg (465×700)

First up is this gorgeous fur gilet, to me it just screams Millie Mackintosh who is one of my style icons and it'll keep me super cozy and snug in the through autumn and into winter. I sure hope it has pockets though. I want to also wear it over my denim jacket but am unsure whether it would work.

Next is a black midi dress, bit boring, but ooh wait it has leather sleeves *gasps*. Okay, okay I can't really jazz this one up much its just a classic and as it's getting a bit chillier now my hemlines are going to start coming down. I'm planning on wearing this with the aforementioned fur gilet and my trusty BooHoo fedora.

3rd the one with the one with the hair chest, actually this is the item is the least hairy and the least likely to be styled with anything fluffy or furry. It's more of a feathery affair due to its beautiful flamingo colour which is also a little bit burgundy making a great autumnal palette. I want to wear this with cute black knee high socks and a long sleeved basic black top or jumper.

Finally on my wishlist is this white fluffy jumper which reminds me of a little cute maltese puppy and of snow so it is a bit Cruella de Vil of me to want it, I want a white jumper to match some white chunky sandals own and I've really been struggling to find the perfect one.
My next post is either going to be a back to school essentials or a autumn haul so see you then xx

Work Experience Tips

I basically did a pretty shoddy job at finding a work experience placement which is why I've ended up working at my mum's school but here's some tips on  how you can get the placement you want.

1. Early Bird Gets the Worm
As soon as you get given the dates of when you'll have to do your work experience start contacting people, I waited at least 2 months before I did which was a bad idea. However it was still 5 months before the work experience dates started :(
2. No Emailing
I contacted around 20 places via email and only about 4 replied, all saying they were already full. So try asking people in person or over the phone as then you'll get an immediate response and not have to wait a few days for a "no" or just to be ignored. Calling people scared the shit out of me, as did speaking to people in person but you could just get your parent/guardian to ask for you if you're anything like me.
3. Go Big or Go Home
I recommend applying to big businesses as they are more likely to have the ability and correct insurance to take a young person on. Also big businesses will look good on your CV as they are more well known and have good reputations giving you a good reputation by association.
4. Talk to Your Work Experience Co-Ordinator
If you're doing work experience while still at school talk to the person who deals with the admin regarding it, about where to apply and whether they know of anywhere already on the system that would be likely to take you on.
5. Don't be Afraid to Travel
Limiting yourself to just your local area will also limit the amount of places you can apply to, I know people who are going to York and London to do their two weeks just because that's where the opportunities in fields they're interested in lie.
6. It's Not Forever
If you're struggling to think of places to apply to because you're clueless about what job you want in the future, don't worry ! It's only for 2 weeks you won't be stuck there forever. Apply to places that you think will help you get your first job, not your dream job, if you're in  pickle e.g. shops and cafes. But this is a last resort don't straight away lower yourself, no offence to anyone working in these jobs, aim high at first.
7. Branch Out
If people reject you ask them if they know of anywhere else similar that would accept you. You could also ask if businesses have another branch near by and if they could take you on,some businesses may ask the other branch on your behalf avoiding extra stress for you.
8. Family and Friends
Unfortunately for me most of my parents friends are teachers which isn't something I'm particularly interested in but my brother got to do a week with a graphic design company through a family friend and he really enjoyed it.

Hope these help but I'm afraid a lot of it, in my opinion, is down to luck so..
GOOD LUCK from me xo

#daretobare

Don't worry guys only my face is bare. This isnt exactly very daring for me because I very rarely wear a full face of makeup usually just a winged eye or a statement lipstick. I don't wear much makeup usually because I'm very comfortable in my own skin - I'm not saying that all people who do wear makeup all the time aren't by the way. But I thought it would be interesting to see a before and after comparison and hopefully inspire you guys to "bare" too.

Before is on the left and after is on the right. I was wearing contacts today for the second time ever so my eyes are looking a lot less squinted without glasses on than normal.

To create this look I used precisely 10 products most of which cost under £10 each because I'm a cheapskate. Excluding the eyeshadow palette which I have no eye idea (puns are my specialty you'll soon come to realise) of the exact name or price as it was a gift. And the bronzer which I nicked off my mum as she never used it.
Moisturiser- Superdrug, Clear Mascara- Collection, Powder- Rimmel London, Black Mascara- MaxFactor  , BB Cream- Maybelline, Eyeshadow Palette- Colourworks, Eyeliner- L'oreal Paris, Bronzer- Elizabeth Arden, Lipstick- L'oreal Paris, Lip Balm -Superdrug.

From the eyeshadow palette I used the white for my brow bone and around my tear duct, the copper on my lid, and the brown on my eyebrows.
If you want to know exact colour names for any of the other products feel free to ask, I just didn't want to clog up what was meant to be a quick post. Soap and Glory's Super Cat liner is in the picture on the far right but I didn't use it in the end.
It's a quick post because I should really be revising for my french speaking assessment which I kind of am, watching 'Un Monstre a Paris' counts right ?!
I was really concerned throughout this post whether I'd spelt 'palette' correctly or not, so sorry if I haven't.

J'adore tous de tu !
 xoxo

My First Gig (went a little like this)

On the 30th of April 2014 I attended my first ever gig, it was MCBUSTED, and I'd reccomend it to anyone who likes giant inflatable breasts and balls flying everywhere - all will be explained in due course.
I attended with 5 of my closest friends Jess, Lucie, Beef/Elizabeth,Rosie and Annie, what I didn't know until I got there is that none of them appear to know more that 3 McFly or Busted songs *scoffs* disgraceful!
I arrived late as usual but not too late to miss any of the three support acts. I loved the first two acts "Young Brando" and "E of E" and I wish them all the success in the world .The final group "The 3 Dudes" were good but they annoyed me. I don't know whether it was the fact that they had achieved so much more than me at such a young age, they were literally 12, or the fact that one of them twerked. I did like that they all looked like ex disney stars though, the twins of the band both looked like 'Rico' from Hannah Montana and the third brother looked like a Sprouse twin. I'm sure they're gonna make me eat  my words though, after they've hit puberty that is, that was harsh I'm sorry fellas.

After an hour and a half of support acts McBusted themselves came on accompanied by the Delorean and a shit tonne of pyrotechnics. They sang all the classics, Year 3000, Crashed the Wedding, Obviously etc but there was one song they played that I didn't know. Its called Nerdy and I'm listening to it right now, if this was one of their big songs I apologise for not knowing it, I was only 5 when they broke up though.
We were sitting around 210 or 211, and although the giant sports balls didn't reach past level 1 - so no impromptu catch session for us, was actually pretty decent seating so props to First Direct Arena and Jess's mummy for that. Well apart from for Beef who kept dropping her already broken glasses, on the floor, in the dark so the poor kid couldn't see half the show. I say kid but she is older than me as is everyone else in the group I went with.

But at that I think everyone felt like a kid, there's just something about McFly and Busted that makes you feel nostalgic even though McFly are still going strong 10 years on. They make you feel innocent and young even though you're surrounded by drunk people and there's 3 inflatable tits hanging from the ceiling, referencing the triple breasted who swim around town in Year 3000.

I definitely want to go to more gigs in the future but maybe with a little bit less famous bands though 'cause then tickets would be cheaper - although its well worth the money -  and you get to be a lot closer to the action.

from my lovely friend's tumblr

I'll do an outfit of the night soon, and apologies for the poor quality pictures, my phones a poop.

Lots of love Mary xo

BooHoo.com Haul

Boohoo is my favourite online store because everything is reasonably priced and they have a very varied range of clothes and accessories. They're great for basics such as plain white tees but also do exciting statement pieces. I recently ordered a bunch of stuff from there for spring and a few items for the gym, which i have still yet to join, I will do soon I promise.
Ria Fedora - £8
This was a bit of a scary buy for me, I'm not usually a hat person but this year
I'm trying to be more adventurous clothes-wise, this adventurous streak also
lead to buying skort (wow so wild). It looks lovely and boho-ish on but can be
worn with almost any style of outfit. I don't recommend wearing it while its
windy though.

                                                           Nicole Crop Tops - £4
These are a bit boring, I know, but I would absolutely class them as wardrobe essentials for anyone even those afraid of showing a bit of midriff as you can wear them with high waisted skirts or trousers without the hassle of tucking in a full length t-shirt without looking scruffy. The one pictured is "Charcoal " and I also ordered a "White" one.
                                                                      Neon shorts - £6
These shorts are my gym purchase (which i have since joined since writing the intro, because this post has been sitting in my drafts for about a month). They're a lot brighter than they look online but not so bright that its offensive, I should've really guessed this from their name. They're also quite see-through so I'd recommend wearing pink knickers underneath. If any of you can think of ways to wear these everyday rather than just to workout, please comment them below.

Midi Skirt - £8

Elegance for eight quid is hard to come by, but I think this skirt brings a hint of class to any outfit, well more than a mini-skirt would. Also when wearing this I only have to shave halfway up my legs BONUS ! My big question though is, is it acceptable to wear vans with this. Pleeeease say it is.

Thanks for reading lovelies xo

Spring Nails

Its finally starting to look like spring here in good old Blighty, meaning today I was out in the garden today prepping it for the summer, however as always after gardening you have grubby nails so I decided to give myself a little manicure. Here's a little step by step guide as to what I did.

What you'll need for the actual nails:
Clear Base/Top Coat
White nail polish
Black nail polish
Pink nail polish
A bobby pin (one with round ends works best)
Tape

Step 1 - Wash up
First of all I washed my hands and used a nail brush to get rid of the soil I had underneath my nails. I also removed the old coat of polish I had on using regular kitchen towel and Sally Hansen nail polish remover.

Step 2 - Moisture Me !
I squirted a small dollop of Soap and Glory's Hand Food onto my palms and rubbed it in ensuring that I got my fingertips until the cream was invisible.

Step 3 - Sticky Situation
I applied a clear base coat to all my nails (only do your thumbs if you're in a hurry) and once it had dried I placed tape across the bottom of my thumb nails.

Step 4 - Lucky Rabbits Head ?!
Next I painted the none taped section of my thumbnail white. After leaving this to dry for  minute or so, using the thinner side of the polish brush I drew on two thin lines connecting to the semi circle to create the basis for the rabbits head. Leave to dry for a few minutes before going onto Step 5.

Step 5 and 6 - Listen, See , Smell
Using the split end of your bobby pin dip one of the prongs -new fav. word haha- into your pink nail polish and press it down onto the center of your white semi-circle. Then using the thin side of your pink nail polish brush draw an ever thinner line within the rabbits ears. Then using the clean prong dipped in black nail polish place a two dots evenly space apart above the pink dot to make the eyes.

Repeat on your other thumb and your done ! If you want to decorate your other nails, usually with this nail art I do a faux french tip on  my other nails by taping all but the very tips of my nails and painting the non-taped bit white.

Have a nice Easter xo

March Wishlist

I want to do one of these wishlist/ favorite type things every month, so feel free to shout at me if I don't.

1. My man-crush of the month: Aaron Taylor-Johnson
I recently watched Anna Karenina and  Nearly Famous - now my one of my favourite tv shows ever- and I discovered how much I liked him when he wasn't in shocking films like "Angus, Thongs..". He's pretty but also rugged (?!) if that's even possible aha.
I recently saw this and a similar top in River Island  and loved them both, unfortunately it's not quite that hot in the UK yet so if i had of  bought them I wouldn't get any wear out of them for a few months which seems like a waste of money. Hopefully they'll be still in stock nearer summer.
3. My woman crush of the month: Tallulah Riley
I love the name Tallulah, and I love this actress. I was so close to tears while watching Nearly Famous and I'm not one to cry at TV shows or films but she was just too cute. And St Trinians is always a great pick me up.
4. Face Powder with sponge/puff
I rarely wear makeup these days because I realised covering up bad skin with makeup just leads to worse skin but all I've ever wanted was one of these things so that I could say I was "off to powder my nose", I have small dreams I know. The one pictured is from forever 21 but the shades available are too dark for my skin tone.
I'm getting a new phone because my HTC chacha has turned to shite and I'm probably most excited about what cases I can get rather than the phone. With my HTC there were hardly any cute cases like this one available, I probably won't get an iPhone but anything's better than my current phone.
6. Toni & Guy Deep Barrel
MusicalBethan is one of my favorite youtubers and I've always preferred her hair when it's curly so I was super happy when she uploaded this tutorial. The tool makes your hair look almost as if its been plaited but more voluminous and it'll stay wavy for longer.

An Introduction...

Umm Hi,
I have no idea what I'm doing with this blog but I think I'm gonna review beauty products and maybe do fashion and home hauls. My inspirations to start this blog are Tanya Burr, Niomi Smart and Louise Pentland because they're all amazing and adorable.

I'm Mary, I'm 14 and I'm currently trying to get fitter and healthier for my own benefit - although as I type I am eating a whole chocolate orange by myself- so maybe I'll post a few fitness and healthy eating tips as well. I have natural brown hair, brown eyes and wear glasses, but  I want to get contacts before summer because prescription sunglasses really aren't all that pretty.
Its a-me Mary-o

Don't judge me for that caption .
